Donald Zolan
“Sharing Secrets”
Americas beloved painter of children was born on August 11th,
1937 in Brookfield, IL and passed away July 20th 2009 in Scottsdale
AZ. Zolan was known as a positive thinker and a “people’s artist”. I chose this painting because I feel it portrays
love and innocence. Zolan describes this
photo as a young boy sharing a secret
with his little sister. The closeness of the children connects to my theme of
love because it shows the special life long bond that children have with their
siblings. The background is very dull and could represent grass as the children
or playing. I think he chose a dull background to emphasis the expressions on
the children’s face and to make that the main point of the painting. The white paint on the children give the over all painting a glowing effect making it hard not to connect with this picture.
