“Alley by the Lake”
Palette knife oil painting
Leonid Afremov was born July 12th 1955 in
Vitebsk, Belarus. He now lives in Playa
del Carmen, Mexico. He is a Russian-Israeli modern artist who works primarily
with a palette knife and oils. He is known for being a self-representing artist
who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little involvement
in galleries or exhibitions. He developed his own unique technique as an artist
using a palette knife combined with oils. He cannot be confused with other
artists. Alfremov is one of the most colorful painters out there. His unique
skill creates vivid scenes full of bright colors and watery reflections. Alfremov
likes to capture an emotion with his work. That was his motivation in this
painting. The couple is walking contently through an old Belarusian city. This
picture has a wide array of colors involved with primarily warmer colors on the
left and cooler colors being expressed on the right. The left of the background
features bright cheerful colors with warm colored leaves and full trees. The
background on the right however seems cold and dark with stalk like colors. To
me this represents the ups and downs of life. The couple is strolling through
the city with one another representing love and the work it takes. There is
also an umbrella shown which signifies the trials of a relationship and protection. I chose
this painting because to me it shows the good and the bad of love. All
relationships whether friendships or companions take work and this painting to
me expresses that.
